Sisterhood of Liberty
What if women’s choices were no longer their own?
Sisterhood of Liberty is a graduation project of Mysty Alexander
Inspired by the current social climate in the world, Sisterhood of Liberty is a dystopian feminist story set in a futuristic fictional world where, despite the city’s utopian vibe, much more sinister things are happening behind closed doors.
Mysty would love to develop this concept into a graphic novel, with the potential for more parts to come. In this graphic novel multiple themes get celebrated: female independence, queer love, found family, and identity.
Eunice Lee, our main character, is a naive woman who believes the government has her best interest at heart. When she finds out the truth, her entire worldview gets flipped upside down. She suddenly gets the ability to make her own choices for the first time in her life, internally she fears for the person she will become, and if she’s able to make the right choices for herself.
After the indoctrination these women have been fed both through the chip and by their direct surroundings, they have to unlearn everything they’ve ever known and grow to be their own person. Which is difficult because they can’t be free yet, the government is still after them. What is it like trying to become the best version of yourself while you have to fear for your newfound freedom every step of the way?
In a world where women have lost their ability to make their own decisions, one secret underground society is aware of the government’s sinister actions: the Sisterhood of Liberty.
The protagonist, Eunice Lee, is ripped away from her naive beliefs about the world when one day she meets a woman named Carly, who tells her she can show her what true freedom feels like.
Eunice faces many internal struggles surrounding her newfound freedom. Will she like the person she becomes now that she has control over her own life? And is it okay for her to love that woman, Carly, who showed her this glimpse of freedom?
